The migration subject had been treated poorly and inadequately by the European Union until recent years, when its proportions became unmanageable. The paper explores the need to create a Mediterranean migration alliance in order to coordinate efforts between the UE and the MENA region. The paper identifies the gap in the EU’s current approach to migration, which is excessively concentrated on domestic affairs policy. It also points to the EU’s Common Security and Defense Policy (CSDP) to fill it, identifying the best ways to deploy CSDP’s resources.
